ESCA Next Gen Award

European Subsea Cables Association Next Generation awards bring recognition for George Neal, Subsea Cable Engineer at Pelagian

Members of Pelagian’s team recently attended the European Subsea Cables Association (ESCA) 2026 Subsea Cables Awareness Workshop (SCAW) at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, England, from both an attendee and presenter perspective.

The workshop brought together industry leaders, academics, and policymakers to shine a spotlight on the necessity of subsea cables in our increasingly interconnected world, in addition to the growing need for security and environmental considerations in the offshore sector. Pelagian are pleased to support ESCA and make positive contributions to work which affects the subsea cables industry.

In addition to the SCAW, ESCA also presented the 2026 NextGen Awards in recognition of emerging talent in the industry. Pelagian is extremely proud to announce that our Subsea Cable Engineer, George Neal, won the Engineering Excellence category. George received a ?500 training and development bursary courtesy of ESCA, in addition to an award. This trophy is made from a section of the ANZCAN subsea cable system. ANZCAN was originally installed in 1982, spanning 8,250 nautical miles across the Pacific, with landings in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii and Canada. This section of cable was recovered south of Fiji in 2024 by Subsea Environmental Services who have kindly created and donated this award.

An incredible achievement which recognises George’s hard work and his ongoing approach to develop his route engineering capabilities.

Nurturing new talent in the industry has always been a key aspiration for Pelagian, and we look forward to watching George’s career continue to prosper.
